Carmen dressed in classics in Olomouc enchanted
At the public dress rehearsal on Thursday, Carmen was created by Barbora Polášková. Opera-lovers will surely find the name a surprise, as the part of Carmen actually represents the launching pad for this young lady´s solo career in opera! And to be sure, she has my sincere admiration, for she stood up to the occasion in a truly admirable manner, showing equal assurance on the planes of stage movement, acting, and singing. I would attribute certain minor vocal flaws detectable towards the opera´s finale in part to her lack of experience, and also to the discomfort of having to sing so early in the day, in a tropical heat. I do hope that we will yet hear a good deal about her in the future, and that this Carmen will become the first role in what is to be an impressive gallery.
