Luigi Cherubini: Medea, The J.K.Tyl Theatre in Pilsen - June 2017

Even though in the Plzeň version Barbora Polášková, as Medea´s confidante, Neris, was left with just the meagre opportunity of a single aria, she used it to spectacular effect, in an impressive display of feeling for the music. Her richly coloured mezzo-soprano has by now become safely settled,  its tone palette further enhanced along with its degree of assurance, intonation-wise, apart from which she also gave proof of her acting prowess in a brilliant characterization of the confidante´s mixture of devotion and stern matter-of-factness in her rapport with her despotic  mistress. She showed there are no small roles, delivering a performance that stood out as one of the evening´s highlights.
